The Cause of Diabetes![]() Navigation: Main page Author: Adem What causes diabetes? There's no "cure" for diabetes, and there is no single "cause" of diabetes, either. There's an abundance of theories, though.Type 1 diabetes is believed to be caused by genetics poor diet (malnutrition) and environment (virus affecting pancreas). If there's a history of Type 1 diabetes in a family, the risk factor is far greater than if there is no family history of Type 1 diabetes. In Type 1 diabetes, the pancreas does not secrete insulin Type 2 diabetes is also believed to be affected by genetics, but lifestyle is also a contributing factor. Those who are most often diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are over 40 years old, obese, and sedentary. In Type 2 diabetes, the pancreas secretes insulin, but the body doesn't use the insulin correctly. Heredity seems to be the most significant factor for the level of risk of diabetes. Because some genes pass from one generation to another, diabetes can be an inherited disease. It's important for all of us to eat a good and well-balanced diet. Americans especially eat a very unhealthy diet that is high in calories, processed sugars, and food preservatives. A diet that consists of fresh fruit, fresh vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats is a healthy diet. There is no recognized research that tells us that poor nutrition actually causes diabetes, but there is recognized research that tells us that a poor diet can cause many human problems. Age is a factor in Type 2 diabetes. Most of those diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes are over 40; but that doesn't mean that if you are over 40, there's nothing you can do to prevent Type 2 diabetes. A good diet, frequent exercise, and weight control can lower your chances of developing Type 2 diabetes significantly. Disclaimer Privacy-Policy Terms-Of-Use |
