There is an amazing array of nursery decor choices out there. There are a lot of choices for themes for both boys and girls.

The most important aspect of choosing nursery decor is to make the decor stimulating for the baby. The idea is not to make the nursery decor blend with the other rooms in the home. The nursery should be thought of as a separate universe because it really is.

It's a very, very good idea to choose furnishings for the nursery that will grow with the child. Babies are only babies for a very short period of time. They grow to be toddlers and then preschoolers before you know it. There are cribs that you can purchase that convert to toddler beds. Modular furniture is an excellent choice of furnishings for a nursery.

At least a portion of the nursery needs to be decorated with bright and cheerful colors. It is believed that bright colors are stimulating to an infant, so when the baby is awake, you want him to be surrounded with stimulating colors.

On the other hand, the baby also sleeps in the nursery, and you don't want to stimulate his senses when he is trying to fall asleep, so there should also be an area of the nursery that is done in soothing muted colors.

The question is how can you do both bright and cheerful AND soft and muted in the same room? The easy way is with the use of a room divider or a screen.

Use one area of the room for sleeping and the rest of the room for play and stimulation. Infants like small enclosed spaces for sleeping, so you need to use only one corner of the room as a sleeping area.
