It is nonprofit, and there are no commercials on PBS stations. There are 355 television stations that comprise PBS. PBS is known as the provider of high-quality documentary and dramatic entertainment. It's also known for bringing diverse viewpoints on a multitude of subjects to viewers.PBS provides digital learning material for teachers of children from pre-K through the 12th grade at no cost. PBS covers history in "History Detectives" segments. This week a book that may have been a gift from John Adams to his sons is shown and discussed. In science and nature programming this week, "The Wisdom of the Wild" is an exploration of the ways in which animals can teach us and heal us. The drama and art offering this week in "Masterpiece: Mystery, The Inspector Lynley Mysteries," the exploits of Lynley and Havers, the crime-cracking duo from opposite sides of the tracks, is traced. Home and hobby segments are diverse. This week antique collecting is discussed and the actual value of objects featured on "Antiques Road Show" are revealed. Up-to-date news is also provided on PBS stations with in-depth looks at the personalities in the headlines. PBS is free. There is no charge for air time on PBS, and so it relies on the "kindness of strangers," so to speak. Viewers are asked to make donations to PBS to keep stations on the air. Collectively, PBS stations are the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The PBS Corporation receives 15% to 20% of its annual operating revenue from federal sources and 25% to 29% from state and local taxes. PBS was founded when all television was broadcast on the three privately owned television networks, CBS, NBC, and ABC. The objective was to provide diversity.
